How to set up KDS stations and PINs

Each menu item goes to the station that prepares it, and each kitchen screen sits behind a PIN. Set up stations, routing and PINs, then test with one order.

  • 5 steps
  • Screens show demonstration data

Before you start

  • A tablet or screen for each station
  • Your menu categories
  • Admin access

Step by step

  1. Create stations

In the Admin, open the kitchen stations screen and create the stations you use in service.

  2. Route items to stations

Assign each category or item to a station, so only its items appear on that screen.

  3. Open the KDS on a tablet

Open the kitchen display on the shared tablet and pick its station.

  4. Set a PIN

Lock the shared tablet with a PIN so only authorised staff change its settings.

  5. Test an order

Ring a test order and check it lands on the right station. Tickets are colour-coded by age.

Questions

Common questions

The kitchen sees the ticket fields set for that station. Keep personal details out of kitchen notes, because notes show whatever staff type.
